What is the difference between dofollow and nofollow backlinks?
Hello All, Many a times in the Orangecopper Forum i have come across questions from visitors, requesting to clarify the difference between a do-follow and a no-follow link! or “dofollow” and ”nofollow” These two terms are very much used terms in the SEO perspective. So let me make that clear by adding a detailed post here.
So lets Start with NoFollow Backlinks
Assuming you already know what is the HTML code for a hyperlink i am starting, for the benefit of our friends who do not know about back links or hyperlink code here it is.
Basic Hyperlink code
<a href="http://www.orangecopper.com/forum">OC Forum</a>
No follow Hyperlink code
<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.orangecopper.com/forum">OC Forum</a>
So basically its shouting to the Search engine Bot, ” Hey bot ! this is for your information, Do NOT crawl through this link as i dont like it ! ”
Do Follow Hyperlinks
There is No Such thing called as dofollow hyperlink, aahh, then why are we discussing it ?? because, a dofollow is any link that is NOT a “nofollow” , In simple words, every link is dofollow if not specified as no follow.
Bonus Tips:
Everyone loves to be indexed, then why the hell anyone would use the no-follow tags, there could be many reasons.
1 . This should be ideally be used for paid links ( as suggested by google) because, we are not recomending it, we are charging it to be placed there and the reason is money and not content.
2. When you are tweeting in twitter or Digging in DIG or making a squidoo lenses, these are Social networking sites and would not like to link everywhere they find links to. even from scraps and posts, so by default most of these links are NOFOLLOW too.

Nice explanation. Often i have observed that directories that allow free link addition has two options 1. reciprocal link with free link back 2. complete free link back, the option2 is usally no-follow, so be carefull when you submit to directories to no follow link back, its waste !

Nofollow are for not crawling a link by search engine. Dofollow allow search engine to crawl links, But both are good for human traffic.

a good seo uses every type of backlinks. if only have dofollow links it will not look naturally to google. Because you must have a mix of both linktypes.

Basically back links have a good weight on SEO only when 1. you have a do-follow back link 2.It is from a significantly higher PR domain 3. The niche from the linking website is related.

Nofollow link are not counted when google distributing PR and search engine crawler not follow the nofollow links
Dofollow are reverse of nofollow google count in PR distribution and search engine crawler crawl the links.
