Friends, Ive searched long enough for a good classifieds ads script like most of you guys and have tried almost all free ones and also purchased a few as well. Now done with all that i am writing this post so that you also wouldn’t have to go through the same pain and would save time and a LOT of effort.
Firstly, before starting to search for a script, lets understand our requirements, and ask ourselves a few questions.
- Am i gonna spend money on the script? (Free or Paid)
- Whats my expectations out of the website
- How complex or simple the website needs to be
- What are my level of expertise in configuring and maintaining a website
Trust me, your website depends on the first question mostly!!
If you are planning to go for a Free one, Think again – you are being limited a lot to what you get !! and if you have long term plans with the website, i would strongly suggest to go for a paid script so that you would get the support and quality as well.
Still if you are convinced to go for a free one, below are the best free Classifieds ads script on the web as per my experience.

Thankyou also I have tried many scripts, the one that I have opted for is xzero, fully customizable, but need to have knowledge of php. Cost is about $49 so its affordable. I put up a site and its working well.

Yes, thats a nice script BUT the huge disadvantage is not bein on WordPress and that will make a huge SEO difference.
Sites on WP experience the awesomeness of SEO friendly structure..

Classipress is a good skeleton for a classified site. However, if you don’t know how to code, you could spend big dollars to have THEIR bugs fixed because their support is the worst in the business. WORST!!! If they would concentrate on fixing the current bugs with their wordpress theme, they may have something good, but for now, I would rate them 5.5 out of 10.

Just came back to say thanks! Man great review and it was really helpful in decideing what i wanted out of my website.
I certainly did have the plan of a long term on the website and i made up my mind to spend the few dollars.
Its paid off and the Classipress theme is something AMAZING and such a great seamless backend has been carved from a wordpress, am surprised. Thanks again !!

First i tried out Noah and played with the script for a week. its a really nice script but has few weak points.
- complexity in configuring
- Not as search engine friendly as wp
- not much user friendly
Then i finally went on to the classipress option, it seems really good on the blog and works really good.
pros – actually there are a lot but mainly – good interface, ad integarated, google maps api integrated, paypal payment integrated, Ajax integrated nice dynamic interface etc.
Cons – cant think of any now..will chip in if i find any..

First pls let me know which currency you are referring to – Payment acceptance amount for placing an ad or ad’s rental or sale price.
I guess if you are referring to payment fee while placing the ad – you are correct INR is not supported, i will further suggest specialized ones for Real estate purpose..there are few good ones..
Are there free theme for download ?

Just came back to say a huge thanks for the suggestion of the Classifieds ads theme for wordpress. First of all i was not very sure what wordpress was. But my hosting control panel had a wordpress direct one click install – so that part was easy. Further i checked on how to install a theme on wordpress. Purchased the Classipress theme that you suggested. The setup instructions were crystal. I did install the theme on my new blog and it was so surprising how the complete set up just magically transformed into a perfect classifieds ads scripts. Thank you! really appreciate this article.
I have set up a classifieds website for used cars in california and it works great in even accepting the payments with the integrated paypal.

The reason i ranked it 1 in the list is basically because i have used it and the coding and development is solid. regarding installation of wordpress and installing this theme – you do not need to pay anyone. follow this article here: http://orangecopper.com/blog/how-to-install-wordpress-step-by-step-tutorial
In the article i have explained the steps to install a wordpress and install the theme. So once you set up wordpress manully or from your hosting control panel. download the appthemes and browse and install. Further you can easily change the settings of the theme and fill basic info in the admin panel.

Ans: Yes the license can be used for unlimited websites.

Ans: Yes, there is an option for free and featured ads. Payment can be set up any time from the admin section.

Ans: PayPal is the only option as an inbuilt API,but i have seen many other webmasters using different forms. Since there is a checkout form any payment gateway company can integrate their gateway to your website.

Ans: Basically the registrations are done using the WordPress inbuilt script itself, so there are lot of plugins for wordpress for free that allows user bulk emails and notifications.

Ans: Am not very sure, but i guess there is a wordfilter, else wordpress plugins could help you here as wel.

Does anybody know of any Classifieds script that has a “related products” or “similar products” feature?
When one clicks into a product page and have some related products based on the product’s descriptions or title tag get pulled up to be displayed on the same page?

But prices for some of those scripts is slightly higher then you wrote. It was unpleasant surprise.

Yes! Noah is a great script but the only issue i had using it was the search engine friendliness. One of my website usedmobiles.in had noah for more than a year and the site was a failure. When i migrated to WordPress – you can check out the traffic stats of the website to get convinced!

I’ve used clasypress for my classified blog. Take a look at http://warungiklan.tk/.
Many of these scripts dont a customized filter bar on the side which is a bit of a downer.
Not sure about other scripts but classipress works great and I have been able to customize it to any extent for many clients

4. I also have downloaded classipress online at on cost from my friends link so, can i use that.

- The price for app is not very high considering the performance and quality. I have been using it on my UsedMobiles.in website and its fetching me at least 10times its cost monthly basis from ads.
- The price will not go free anytime as its the support and the upgrades that they really are charging for.
- I don’t think they offer any coupons now
- One classipress license for one owner is their rule. ie. the domain owner should be the registered person.

Question about scripts:
ClassiPress: I have never used wordpress except their freee blog and that too very limited use. Can we modify the code and add or remove features we don’t like. I mean not just the look but the core functionality itself.
Noah: Same question for noah above. Since now they aren’t free, do we get entire control of source code?

Thanks for the update that Noah is paid right now, just checked it and was surprised to see the fact that they have removed the free version! But i feel the Fantastico or the Cpanel of any hosting company still has a free version to install that for free.
as they are paid, i assume they might have gone GPL and the source code should be free to download after purchase.

It’s okay so far. But the only problem is the multi country feature. If then can incorporate the craiglist or webscribble type for multi country/city then its perfect
I love the user interface of webscribbler and how they handle the ads filtering based on country and city. but the script is too expensive 400USD.
I am using OSClass for my classified website…I find it very flexible and the team behind OSClass is committed.

aj classified is so expensive
Classipress has only one big flaw that you cannot remove “Ad-category” from the url
if you use third party seo plugin you can remove the category, if im not mistaken it will be change to “ad” only.
